Bachelor of Science in Primary Education

Course Descriptions

ODU's Primary  Education program prepares graduates for an Ohio teaching license to teach pre-kindergarten through grade five.

Programs offered:

  • Bachelor of Science in Primary Education
  • Licensure in Primary Education
  • Double-Licensure in Primary Education and Intervention Specialist
Because primary teachers typically teach all subjects, students are expected to take courses across the curriculum. ODU's Primary Education program provides general education classes and a range of professional education courses while integrating theory, practice and educational technology.

In addition, ODU students participate in extensive field-based experiences in diverse primary education settings prior to student teaching.

Candidates can pursue Intervention Specialist as their second major (licensure).

Coursework is also available for a P-12 Reading Endorsement.

The program models guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
