Maria Gluys is an Associate Professor and serves as the Academic Coordinator and Interim
                                 Program director. She completed an undergraduate degree in Health Sciences and Spanish
                                 at Butler University in Indianapolis and a Master’ degree in Physician Assistant Studies
                                 at University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Professor Gluys worked in the Emergency
                                 Department of Mt. Carmel Health Systems for seven years. She has worked clinically
                                 in occupational medicine, physical medicine & rehab and urgent care. Prior to working
                                 at Mt. Carmel Health Systems, she and her husband spent nine months on a medical service
                                 trip in Peru, South America. During that time she worked to provide access to basic
                                 health services in the local community and provide health education. Professor Gluys
                                 has participated in several other medical service trips including projects in Costa
                                 Rica and Honduras. She has a special interest in medically underserved populations
                                 and enjoys sharing this passion with future physician assistants, showing ways to
                                 serve marginalized populations locally. In her personal life, Professor Gluys is married
                                 with four children and enjoys traveling, reading and outdoor adventure.
