Leo Madden received his graduate training in Catholic Theology and Sacred Scripture
at the Gregorian University and Biblical Institute in Rome, Italy. He was among the
first American laypersons to receive graduate training at those institutions.
His doctoral dissertation examined the modes of Paul's argumentation in the Letter
to the Romans with attention to Classical Rhetoric.
At Ohio Dominican University, Madden teaches courses in Sacred Scripture at the undergraduate
and graduate levels, and joins with a team of faculty in teaching in the Core Curriculum.
In 1995, Ohio Dominican's students voted Madden Outstanding Teacher of the Year.
Madden has organized numerous programs for spiritual and theological growth at many
parishes in Washington, D.C. and Columbus, Ohio. Local media frequently interviews
him on issues relating to the Catholic church.
Madden is an active member of the Catholic Biblical Association, the Society of Biblical
Literature, the American Academy of Religion, and the Catholic Theology Society.
He is active in Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honors society for Theology and Religious
Studies, as a member of the Board of Directors, as the Editor of the Journal of Theta
Alpha Kappa, and as the moderator for the local chapter at Ohio Dominican.
