COLUMBUS, Ohio (43219) – More than 450 people were in attendance Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Alumni Hall as Ohio Dominican University's newly-established Black & Gold Club met in its Kick-Off event to raise awareness and funds for ODU athletics.

The organization is dedicated to providing financial support for intercollegiate athletics at Ohio Dominican University and helping Panther student-athletes, coaches and athletic department staff achieve success on and off the field of play.

"It's unbelievable to have this type of response for a first time event," said Ohio Dominican President Peter Cimbolic, Ph.D. "I'm thankful for all of the people we had contribute to this event."

"This was a real team effort," added Bill Blazer, ODU athletic director. "Every coach and administrator played a big part in putting this together, as well as our student-athletes. It's a privilege to be making the transition to Division II and we are proud to be members of the NCAA and the GLIAC."

Ohio State University head football coach Jim Tressel served as the event's keynote speaker, which was emceed by Mindy Drayer of NBC 4.

"It's so exciting to see what's going on at this university and you can feel the energy when you talk with the people," Tressel said. "There's a desire to make a difference. Something special is going on here, and I couldn't be more excited for the community and institution."

"Every coaching staff and the entire university is fired up right now," said Bill Conley, first-year head football coach. "We have great teams and great coaches here. ODU is already one of the more respected universities, and we couldn't be more excited about transitioning to Division II."

The Kick-Off featured a dinner, silent and live auctions, as well as a raffle to win a 2010 smart fortwo pure coupe, with the drawing to take place during halftime of ODU's Homecoming football game against Hillsdale University at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9.

Membership is open to all individuals and organizations with a desire to contribute to the academic, athletic and personal growth of ODU student-athletes, while abiding by NCAA, GLIAC, and ODU policies and principles. For more information, click here.
