Biopsychology
Ohio Dominican University’s Biopsychology students study the biological basis for human and animal behaviors, thoughts and feelings. Students in this interdisciplinary program take a combination of courses from the Biology and the Psychology disciplines.

Biopsychology is an interdisciplinary major not typically offered by smaller schools. At Ohio Dominican University, students will have opportunities for hands-on opportunities - such as cadaver lab experience and field work - not often available at the undergraduate level.
Faculty Highlights
Dr. Valerie Staton
Dr. Valerie Staton specializes in ferret behavior. She has published articles on domestic ferrets in the applied animal behavior field, which addresses veterinarians and behavioral specialists. Dr. Staton also works in the field with the Arizona Game and Fish Department on the North American Black-footed Ferret conservation project.
Dr. Anne Crimmings
Dr. Anne Crimmings is a licensed psychologist in the state of Ohio and is interested in the etiology and treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders, as well as women’s issues. She is a two-time recipient of ODU’s Conley Award for Outstanding Teaching.
DR. JOHN THISTLETHWAITE
Dr. John Thistlethwaite is the creator and director of the Exercise Science program. He is also the chair of the Natural Sciences Department. His research interests include cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic regulation particularly pertaining to obese and Type II diabetic individuals.
Dr. John Marazita
Dr. John Marazita is a cognitive psychologist, specializing in metacognitive development and language acquisition. In 2011, Dr. Marazita received the Ohio Magazine’s Excellence in Education and was named as an ODU Centennial Person of Influence for his work in teaching, leadership, curriculum development and student research. Dr. Marazita’s research has been published in several journals, including Child Development, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Memory and Language, and Language Learning and Development.
Dr. Blake Mathys
Dr. Blake Mathys is interested in all aspects of vertebrate zoology. Most of his research focuses on birds that have been introduced to oceanic islands. He also studies the ecological significance of body size for native Ohio songbirds.
