Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Each of the past six years, students have had the opportunity to take the Accounting Tax Practicum course and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for college credit. The Accounting program, in cooperation with the IRS, offers Accounting students the opportunity to put their classroom knowledge to practical use. Accounting students, usually juniors or seniors, are certified by the IRS as tax preparers. Under faculty supervision (all faculty supervisors are CPAs) students prepare federal, state, local school and city income tax returns. As of 2012, the program has prepared 1,416 tax returns since 2007.
