• What a great 5K!

    Thank you to the more than 150 people who participated in the ODU Alumni 5K Fun Walk/Run on April 26. The rain cleared away just as the race began and everyone had a great time. And we have the photos to prove it!

    2nd Annual Alumni Panther 5K on April 26

     

    Calling all ODU alumni! Join us for the 2nd Annual Alumni Panther 5K Walk/Run, sponsored by the ODU Alumni Council and the ODU Alumni Office. We have designed an exciting course this year and expect more than 200 participants!

    Registration Begins:  8 a.m.
    Race Begins:  9 a.m.

    The course has been redesigned for this year’s race but the same cheering crowds and live music will keep you churning out mile after mile toward the finish!

    Registration

    How to Register 

    All participants, regardless of age, must submit an individual registration form before the race. A waiver (part of the registration form) must also be completed for each participant. Race day and on-site registration will not be available!

    Fill out the form completely, including the waiver, and mail it to Ohio Dominican University, ATTN: Panther 5K Run/Walk, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, OH 43219 

    Goodie Bag 

    All registrants will receive a finisher medal, a dry wick t-shirt, bib number, a discount coupon for the ODU bookstore, water bottle, and various other coupons and freebies.

    Prizes

    Each race finisher, including children 12 and under, will receive a medal commemorative of the 2nd Annual ODU Alumni Panther 5K Run/Walk. The top 3 walker and runner finishers will be recognized and announced at the Post-Race Party. 

    Post-Race Party & Wellness Fair

    After the race ends we hope to celebrate your accomplishment with you! Post-race refreshments and beverages will be provided along with recognition of the top 3 runner and walker finishers. 

    ODU's Physician Assistant Program is sponsoring a Wellness Fair in which booths and tables of health information and freebies will be set up around the Student Center for racers to visit. The Alumni Office will raffle off prizes as well. All racers are encouraged to stay until the end of the event. 

    FAQs

    Can We Register as a Team? 
    Registrants do not officially register in teams nor are there team captains, but participants are welcome to organize themselves into teams on their own if they wish. All participants must still register individually for the race.

    Will I Get a T-Shirt?  

    Each participant will indicate his/her adult t-shirt size on their registration form. Children 12 and under will not receive t-shirts. 

    When Do I Pick Up My T-Shirt & Bib Number? 

    All registrants will pick up their t-shirts and numbers the morning of the race. No early pick up will be permitted. Racers are encouraged to put their shirts and other free items in their vehicle before the race begins. 

    Will There be First Aid Stations if I Need Medical Attention?  

    ODU will have an EMT on site during the event as well as a First Aid Station along the course should a participant need medical attention. Students in ODU's Physician Assistant Program will staff the station.

    Will There be Water Stations and Restrooms? 

    Water stations will be available along the route. Restroom locations will be posted and announced during the Pre-Race Kick Off. 

    Is There a Charitable Cause Connected to the Race?  

    This race is not designed to raise money for any particular charitable organization ODU. The registration cost simply pays for registration materials, food, security fees, racecourse items, finisher medals, and more.  However we do encourage those who participate to make a gift to the Ohio Dominican Annual Fund.

    Can Non-ODU Alumni Participate? 

    This race is primarily designed for ODU Alumni as a way to return to campus together in the spirit of community for fun and exercise. ODU alumni are welcome to invite their friends and family members as well as current ODU students, staff, and faculty. ODU is not advertising this event to the general public. 

    Can Younger Children of ODU Alumni Families Participate? 

    Yes! A special 50-Yard Dash with the mascot Thunder will take place just before the race begins. Parents must complete a registration form and waiver for their child online. There will also be an adult supervised Thunder Kid’s Corner in the Student Center where children can enjoy snacks, games, and crafts while their adult parents walk/run.

    What is the Mascot 50-Yard Dash? 

    The Mascot 50-Yard Dash will take place 15 minutes before the race begins. Kids 12 and under will have the opportunity to get in on the fun and run with the ODU mascot Thunder. 

    What is the Thunder Kid's Corner?  

    After the Mascot 50-Yard Dash is finished children will be lead over the Student Center Kids Corner to get their picture taken with Thunder, enjoy snacks, and have fun while their family members are walking/running. Parents can meet their children in this area after their race is complete. ODU adult volunteers will staff the Kids Corner to ensure safety. 

    Is the Race Timed?  

    This race is designed to be a relaxed and fun run or walk in effort to connect ODU alumni together in friendship, wellness and memories. Runners and walkers will not receive time chips but there will be ground clocks at the end of the race course to notify racers of their finish time at the end of the race course. Walkers/Runners are encouraged to use their own timing devices on their watches, cell phones, etc. 

    Do I have to run? Can I walk?  

    You do not have to run to participate! Runners and walkers are both welcome to register and enjoy the experience at their own chosen exercise level.

    I've Never Done a 5K. How Should I Begin Training?

    How Can I Volunteer? 

    Many volunteers are needed to make this event possible!

    Race volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt to wear during the event and there is no registration fee.
